Shabby treatment of non-white individuals in Canada is illustrated by the case of Francis Pegahmagabow, from an Ojibwe tribe in Ontario.

While there had been a prohibition against enlisting tribal people into military service, he was able to sign up on August 13, 2014.

The very capable Mr. Pegahmagabow was a great asset to Canadian military operations. He received medals for bravery.

He had hoped that the performance of he and other people of tribal background would help foster improvement in Canadian's treatment of them, he did not see much improvement in his lifetime.
